Q Does silver tarnish and what should I do to keep my silver shiny

All silver tarnishes, that's a fact and in normal everyday life it's not an issue.
However there are chemicals and gases that can quickly accelerate tarnishing so it's very important that silver is kept away from sulphur and chlorine based products  because silver is effected by its surroundings, many of which are not obvious.
For any retailer it's packaging and display materials that are the biggest causes of tarnishing.
The materials used in boxes, cases, display material, tissue paper, organza bags are all products that can contain chemicals which cause tarnishing and that is why it's important to use only low sulphur products.
Cleaning products are also a major accelerant and when used in close proximity it will trigger tarnishing.
As soon as silver is placed on packaging materials that are not low sulphur the tarnishing process starts and your silver will tarnish very quickly. A chain put on a display pad will tarnish very quickly and will tarnish heavily where it's in contact.
It's important to source packaging from trusted suppliers who can supply packaging materials which contain low or no sulphur in their manufacture.
When jewellery is worn there are many factors that might cause tarnishing. Cleaning products, perspiration, perfume, there are lots of products and situations that will cause silver to tarnish.
